McKenna's Position on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties took charge of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they presently occupy twelfth place in England's second tier.

"There have been any of those conversations," the English capital native former Northern Ireland youth international said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is currently.

"I have a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a massive football club."

McKenna signed a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his reported buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he replied. "I'm unaware what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Town's coach forever. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker played for the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the former Welsh forward is inclined to finish the current global tournament qualification, a position that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a productive European competition campaign, even if they not finish as Group J runners-up.

Given his current stance, Bellamy, whose agreement concludes after the European Championship, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the earliest.
