Uche Sparks Straightforward Crystal Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Even though embarking on their first-ever European adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding win that virtually guarantees them a place in the Conference League playoffs.

Another victory in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to secure direct passage to the last 16, particularly following a previous setback against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity

This match provided a chance for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning since joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.

A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season were no match against a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were already depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.

Control Established from the Outset

In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward finish.

Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, fizzing a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee dismissed the appeals.

The formerArsenal man didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had struck the post.

The home side were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Contest

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.

Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring his first touch, only to see his shot blocked.

Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still room for improvement in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect evening for the traveling side.
